On April 7, 2020, the DC Council passed emergency legislation which expanded the eligibility of DC Code Offenders to apply to the Superior Court for compassionate release. In this thematic report the CIC explains the compassionate release process and how it is being implented. The CIC also provides recommendations for key factors of the compassionate release process.
